There's something grounding about working with stone. Each piece in The Rocks collection begins with a single natural gemstone or semi-precious stone that catches our eye—a deep garnet, a milky moonstone, a chunk of raw pyrite with its metallic lustre. We're drawn to stones that have presence, character, and a story written in their inclusions and colour variations. From there, we build jewellery that honours the stone's natural beauty while adding our contemporary edge.
The Rocks represents our love affair with the earth's materials. These are bold, sculptural pieces that pair the organic irregularity of natural stones with hand-fabricated silver and oxidized silver settings. Each necklace, ring, or pair of earrings is entirely one-of-a-kind, shaped by the unique stone at its heart and our response to its particular form and energy.
Natural Stones Meet Contemporary Design
We're not interested in perfectly matched, calibrated stones. The Rocks collection celebrates the variations that make each gemstone distinct—the way light plays differently through each piece of labradorite, the unique banding in every agate, the individual matrix patterns in turquoise. We source stones that have personality: rough-cut, organic shapes alongside beautifully faceted gems, cabochons with dramatic colour shifts, and specimens that show their geological origins.
Our design aesthetic emphasizes the stone rather than competing with it. We create settings that feel architectural yet organic, with clean lines that contrast beautifully against the natural irregularity of the gems. The oxidized silver we often use adds depth and drama, creating shadows that make the stones appear even more luminous by contrast. It's a look that's contemporary and fresh while feeling somehow timeless.
The Making Process
Every piece in The Rocks collection is handmade in our Vancouver studio. We work primarily in sterling silver, which we hand-fabricate using traditional metalsmithing techniques—sawing, filing, soldering, forming. There are no moulds or mass production here. Each bezel is custom-built to fit its specific stone, each setting hand-constructed to complement the gem's unique proportions.
The oxidization process is where much of the drama happens. We carefully oxidize select areas of the silver to create rich, dark patinas that range from deep charcoal to true black. This isn't a uniform coating—we control the oxidization to create subtle variations in tone and depth, then polish the high points to reveal bright silver beneath. The interplay between bright and dark metal creates dimension and draws the eye to the stone.
Setting the stones requires patience and precision. Because we're working with natural, often irregularly shaped specimens, each stone demands its own approach. Some are tension-set, others held in place with hand-built bezels or prongs. We spend considerable time ensuring each stone is secure while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the design. The result is jewellery that feels substantial and well-crafted, built to last.
Materials We Love
The stones in The Rocks collection span a wide range of semi-precious varieties. We're particularly drawn to:
- Labradorite with its spectacular flash and play of colour
- Raw and polished garnets in deep wine reds
- Smoky quartz with its mysterious, translucent depth
- Moonstone in creamy whites and greys with that characteristic glow
- Turquoise showing its natural matrix
- Pyrite and other metallic-looking specimens
- Agate in its endless variations
- Raw crystals and mineral specimens that retain their geological character
We pair these stones with both bright sterling silver and heavily oxidized silver, sometimes within the same piece. The contrast between polished metal and darkened patina creates visual interest and makes the stones pop. Every material choice is intentional, designed to create jewellery that makes a statement without shouting.
One-of-a-Kind by Nature
When we say each piece in The Rocks collection is one-of-a-kind, we mean it literally. Because every natural stone is unique, no two pieces can ever be identical. That labradorite ring exists only once. Those garnet drop earrings are the only pair in the world with exactly that combination of stones and setting.
This uniqueness is central to the Lemon Park Design philosophy. We're not interested in creating jewellery that everyone else is wearing. Our clients appreciate owning something truly individual, a piece that has its own character and presence. The Rocks collection delivers that in spades—each piece is as distinctive as the person wearing it.
How The Rocks Fits Our Wider Collection
The Rocks sits beautifully alongside our other collections. While our Resin pieces offer bold colour and graphic impact, The Rocks brings an earthy, organic quality to the Lemon Park aesthetic. The oxidized silver work connects directly to our broader Oxidized Silver and Gems collection, which explores similar metalwork techniques with different stone treatments and design approaches.
What ties everything together is our commitment to contemporary design, expert craftsmanship, and jewellery that makes an impact. Whether you're drawn to the bright, playful energy of our resin bangles or the grounded, sculptural presence of The Rocks, you're getting handmade pieces that are fresh, original, and made to be worn and loved.
The Rocks collection is for anyone who wants jewellery with substance—pieces that feel substantial in your hand, that carry the weight and presence of natural materials, and that bring something authentic and unrepeatable to your personal style. These are conversation pieces in the best sense: jewellery that invites a closer look and rewards that attention with detail, craft, and genuine beauty.
